Validation and Verification
What is Validation and Verification?
Validation is a third-party evaluation of a project's design conducted by a Validation and Verification Body (VVB). The goal is for the VVB to review the project's Project Design Document (PDD), evaluate the reasonableness of the assumptions, the veracity of the data, and its conformance to the requirements set out in the Programme Manual, the Equitable Earth Standard, and the applied methodology.
Verification is a third-party evaluation of a project’s GHG Monitoring Report conducted by a VVB at regular intervals throughout the project’s crediting period. The goal is for the VVB to assess whether the project has been implemented in line with the validated PDD and whether the project has achieved GHG reductions and/or removals in the monitoring period.
Validation and Verification Bodies (VVBs)
Equitable Earth approved VVBs are independent accredited organisations authorised to conduct validation and verification audits under the Equitable Earth Programme, following the procedures set out in the Validation and Verification Procedure.
In order to be eligible and to conduct audits, VVBs must hold ISO accreditation, undergo screening and training by Equitable Earth, and sign a legal agreement.
