ERS Rebrands as Equitable Earth, Uniting Restoration and Conservation Under One Global Standard
As of 21st July, ERS has rebranded to Equitable Earth. All references to “ERS” refer to the standard body now operating under the Equitable Earth name.

Paris, July 21, 2025 - Ecosystem Restoration Standard (ERS) today announced its official rebrand as Equitable Earth, forming a unified global standard for both forest conservation and restoration on the carbon markets.
This transition follows ERS’s recent acquisition of the Equitable Earth brand and standard, originally developed by a global coalition of over 125 experts from 60 organisations, including Indigenous leaders, scientists, policymakers, and civil society.
“ERS is the brand under which we developed our programme and launched our first methodology focused on restoration, and we’re immensely proud of everything it has accomplished,” said Thibault Sorret, CEO of Equitable Earth. “As we expand into other nature-based methodologies, beginning with conservation, it’s the right time to evolve our brand. We’re honoured to take on a new name that reflects the full scope of our mission and reaffirms our commitment to community-led projects, grounded in the same rigour, transparency, and care that have always defined our work.”
New brand, same team and approach
Only the name and visual identity are changing. Equitable Earth (formerly ERS) continues to be:
All existing credits issued under ERS remain valid, and the M001 Terrestrial Forest Restoration methodology continues to operate as before.
Looking ahead
The transition marks an expanded scope for the programme. Equitable Earth is preparing to launch its second methodology, M002 for Forest Conservation, later this year. Learn more about M002 here.
A gradual transition
The rebrand will be implemented incrementally. For the time being, references to ERS may still appear in programme documents, forms, and methodologies as materials are progressively updated. Questions about the rebrand or documentation? Contact the team here.
By bringing restoration and conservation under one banner, Equitable Earth aims to set a new benchmark for integrity, innovation, and inclusivity in forest carbon certification, backing projects that deliver lasting value for climate, biodiversity, and people.
